Liverpool return to Southampton for Gotze alternative

Liverpool are preparing a move for Southampton forward Sadio Mane if they fail to land Bayern Munich creator Mario Gotze, according to The Guardian.

Jurgen Klopp’s pursuit of Gotze has slowed in recent weeks although they could renew their pursuit of the midfielder following comments made by Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that suggested the German wouldn’t necessarily find first-team chances easier to come by under Carlo Ancelotti next season.

However, Liverpool are already planning without Gotze in their first-team plans next season and are ready to rival Manchester United and Tottenham for Southampton forward Mane.

Mane comes off the back of a mixed season in which he failed to score in four months and was dropped by manager Ronald Koeman in January after he tried to force a move to United.

Despite that, Mane finished with six goals in his last five appearances to finish as Southampton’s joint-top goalscorer with Graziano Pelle (11).
