Everton hint their pursuit of Zaha is over

Everton have not improved their offer for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha contrary to reports suggesting otherwise.

Marco Silva’s side had a £52m bid for Zaha rejected over the weekend and reports emerged on Tuesday claiming they had returned with a new proposal.

It was suggested the Toffees had increased their offer to £55m and included Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy in order to get a deal for Zaha over the line.

However, Everton insist that is not the case and have even suggested their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international is now over.

“Everton categorically denies that a bid has been submitted to Crystal Palace for Wilfred Zaha that included an increased sum plus Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy,” Everton said in a statement, as quoted by The Daily Telegraph.

“Everton and Crystal Palace have a very good relationship. A bid was made over the weekend which was turned down. Both clubs agreed that was the end of the matter.”

Everton hint their pursuit of Zaha is over

Zaha has already missed out on a move to Arsenal and now appears set to stay at Palace after being priced out of a transfer to Everton.

The 26-year-old still has three years left to run on his current Palace deal and Roy Hodgson’s side are under no pressure to cash in.

Palace value the former Manchester United winger in the region of £90m, which neither Arsenal nor Everton are prepared to match.

Zaha reached double figures for goals in a Premier League campaign for the first time in his career last season (10).

Furthermore, only Eden Hazard (446) has completed more dribbles than Zaha (374) in the Premier League since August 2016.
