Real Madrid midfielder opts against Spain exit

World Cup Golden Ball winner Luka Modric has elected against a move away from Real Madrid to Inter Milan, according to Spanish publication AS.

The Croatia international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital, with the Italian giants keen on adding the former Tottenham man to the ranks.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit prompted speculation that Modric could seek a move away from the Bernabeu, with the Real Madrid man, like the Portugal international, keen on a new challenge.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is hoping to tie Modric down to a new deal in Spain, which would see his pay bumped up and moved level with club captain Sergio Ramos.

It would serve as a blow for Inter, who had been looking to bring Modric to Milan after they missed out on the signing of Arturo Vidal after he moved to Barcelona.

Inter have been busy in the transfer window already so far this summer having brought in the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Radja Nainggolan and Sime Vrsaljko.

Madrid impressed for Croatia at the World Cup having gained a WhoScored.com rating of 7.48 and was key in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph too.
