Roma want to sign Chelsea youngster Charly Musounda on loan until the end of the season to cover for the loss of Mohamed Salah, reports The Daily Mail.
Musonda, 20, returned to Chelsea earlier this month after dropping down the pecking order on loan at Real Betis this season and Antonio Conte’s side are now looking to send the winger to a new club for the remainder of the current campaign.
Roma are currently leading the race for the teenager, who has recently recovered from a knee injury, as they look to find cover for Salah when he departs from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt at the start of next month.
However, Conte’s side are only interested in sending Musonda to a club where he will be guaranteed first team action and they are concerned the Belgian U21 international would just return to the bench when Salah returns from AFCON 2017.
Of players to have started at least 10 La Liga games in 2016 only Neymar requires fewer minutes per successful dribble (1 every 20.5 mins) than Musonda (1 every 23.2 mins).
