Chelsea set to sign former England goalkeeper in shock deal
Chelsea are poised to sign former England goalkeeper Rob Green on a free transfer, claims The Sun.
With Thibaut Courtois edging closer to joining Real Madrid, Chelsea are on the market for at least one new goalkeeper this summer.
It has now emerged that Chelsea have offered Green the chance to act as cover for them next season, in a stunning turnaround for the 38-year-old.
Green spent last season warming the bench for Huddersfield before being released at the start of the month and was tempted to call time on his career.
The former Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper is now set to return to west London and compete for Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper with Argentina international Willy Caballero.
Stoke shot-stopper Jack Butland and AC Milan veteran Pepe Reina are on Chelsea’s radar to replace Courtois, while Green looks set to add depth to Maurizio Sarri’s options next term.
Green last made a league appearance during the 2016/17 campaign with Leeds, where he started 46 games for the English giants. In that season, only two goalkeepers kept more clean sheets than Green (15) in England's second-tier.
