Barcelona move for Marquinhos alternative

Barcelona are looking at alternative options in defence after reluctantly accepting they have lost the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos this summer, according to AS, via The Daily Mirror.

Luis Enrique’s side have made signing a top young central defender one of their main transfer priorities this summer and Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez has reportedly spent most of the second half of the season scouring Europe.

The La Liga champions have regularly been liked with a move for PSG defender Marquinhos but have fallen short in their pursuit of the Brazil international after Laurent Blanc’s side made it clear they would not sell this summer.

Instead, Barcelona are now reportedly looking to sign Deportivo defender Sidnei following his impressive campaign, while they are also still in the race to sign Las Palmas centre-back Mauricio Lemos.
