Liverpool eye shock move for former Manchester United flop

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is considering a surprise move to sign former Manchester United No.7 Memphis Depay, claims The Daily Mirror.

Depay failed to make any significant impression during an 18-month stint at United before being sold to Lyon in January 2017.

The Netherlands international has rediscovered his best form at Lyon since then and is now keen to re-sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Lyon have been unhappy with how public Depay has been in voicing his desire to play for a European giant and Liverpool are reportedly now circling.

United have an option to re-sign the 25-year-old if Liverpool firm up their interest in his services but it remains to be seen whether they would be interest in re-signing the versatile forward.

Liverpool were close to signing Depay’s Lyon captain, Nabil Fekir, 12 months ago but dramatically pulled the plug on a deal after the France international underwent his medical at the club.

Depay has played a direct hand in 14 goals in 29 league appearances this season but is a long way off his return of 19 goals and 13 assists in the league last term.

Since August 2017, only Edinson Cavani (55), Kylian Mbappe (54), Florian Thauvin (52) and Neymar (51) have played a direct hand in more Ligue 1 goals than Depay (46).
