Manchester United to offer Chelsea target new bumper contract

Manchester United are prepared to offer Chelsea target Dean Henderson a bumper new £100,000-a-week deal in order to ward off interest from the Blues in the England hopeful, reports The Mirror on Sunday.

Chelsea are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper as a replacement for world-record shotstopper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has struggled for consistency between the sticks this season.

The west London outfit have been credited with an interest in Burnley's Nick Pope, while Henderson has emerged as potential target for Chelsea.

The young goalkeeper has excelled for Sheffield United this season, where he is spending the campaign on loan from United.

The Blades are looking to keep Henderson in Yorkshire for another campaign, but Chelsea are hoping to lure him to London with the promise of first team action for one of England's elite sides.

United, though, are eager to tie Henderson down to a big money deal at Old Trafford as Chelsea consider a £50m move for the highly rated 23-year-old.

Given David De Gea's patchy form, United are hoping to keep Henderson on the books with a view to succeeding the Spaniard as the club's number one in the future.
