PSG agree bumper deal for Messi

French giants PSG have agreed a deal to sign former Barcelona star Lionel Messi, according to French publication Le Parisien.

Barcelona confirmed that they were unable to extend Messi's deal at Camp Nou last week after his current contract expired and he is now free to leave the Spanish giants.

Manchester City were rumoured suitors for Messi, in a move that would have seen him link up with Pep Guardiola once more.

However, it appears as though PSG have secured the 34-year-old's services, with the Argentine expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The move to France would see Messi link up with former Barcelona teammate Neymar, who departed the Blaugrana for PSG for a world record €222m back in 2017.

Messi comes into the new season on the back of Argentina's Copa America success in Brazil this summer, his first major international success of his career.

PSG meanwhile kicked off their 2021/22 season with a 2-1 win at newly-promoted Troyes courtesy of goals from Achraf Hakimi and Mauro Icardi.

Once Messi joins PSG, the Ligue 1 runners' up will have three of last season's five top rated players in Europe's top five leagues on their books.
