Villarreal have announced they have sacked head coach Fran Escriba and will announce his successor in the coming hours.
The Yellow Submarines slipped to a shock 4-0 defeat away to Getafe on Sunday and the La Liga outfit have opted to sack Escriba after more than 12 months in charge.
Villarreal are currently three points above the bottom three after winning just two of their opening six league matches, although defeat to Getafe marked their first defeat in five competitive matches.
After taking over as Villarreal manager at the start of last season, Escriba finishes his time at the club with a modest win rate of 44.1% in all competitions – his best return as a manager.
