Monaco enter race for Inter striker Icardi

Monaco have expressed an interest in signing Inter striker Mauro Icardi, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Icardi has been put up for sale by new Inter head coach Antonio Conte but the club are struggling to find suitors willing to match their demands.

The Argentina international’s stock has diminished considerably over the last 12 months having only recently been valued in the region of €100m.

Roma, Napoli and Juventus are all interested in signing Icardi but none have stepped forward with an acceptable proposal for both player and club.

Icardi was stripped of the Inter captaincy midway through last season and has seen his No.9 jersey taken by summer signing Romelu Lukaku.

Roma are considered the frontrunners of Italian clubs but it has now emerged Monaco have approached Inter about a potential transfer.

Monaco’s interest in Icardi comes as a surprise but at a time where their pursuit of PSV forward Hirving Lozano has subsided.

The Ligue 1 outfit, like Icardi, are struggling to rediscover their former glories and would also need to convince the 26-year-old of their project.

Icardi has scored at least 10 league goals in each of the last five Serie A campaigns and in six of the last seven years.
