Manchester United defender wants Serie A move

Matteo Darmian has revealed he wants to leave Manchester United and return to Italy this summer.

The 28-year-old left Torino to join United in 2015 but has struggled to make any impact at the club.

Darmian has plummeted down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho in the last two years and has no future under the Portuguese.

The Italy international was heavily linked with a return to Serie A at the start of the year, but Mourinho refused to sell any players.

United signed teenager full-back Diogo Dalot earlier this summer, paving the way for Darmian to secure a summer move away.

Inter, Napoli and Juventus are all interested in signing Darmian and the United defender has confirmed his intentions to leave.

“I believe Roberto Mancini is a winner, and the right choice for Italy’s national team. I’ll try to deserve a starter shirt, but it’s not easy at United,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport, via Gianluca Di Marzio.

“My agent knows what I want. Juve, Inter or Napoli? It’s not my role to answer that question, I’ll move for the best solution and I’d consider all possibilities.

“One year ago, I was close to return to Italy but Mourinho and the club didn’t want to sell me so nothing happened. An important proof of esteem, but I’m now looking for continuity.”

Darmian only started five Premier League matches last season after failing to usurp Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in the team.
