Monaco are considering a move for Leicester City forward Islam Slimani as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe, though face competition for the Algerian’s signature from Newcastle and Watford, reports the Leicester Mercury.
Mbappe is widely expected to leave the French champions before the close of the transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain thought to be closing in on the teenager’s signature.
Monaco are keen to retain his services, or at the very least sell abroad, with Real Madrid linked, but are resigned to losing one of their prized assets in the coming days.
And Monaco are eyeing up Slimani as a potential replacement for Mbappe, with the former Club Sporting striker one of three striking targets for the Ligue 1 giants.
Slimani has fallen out of favour at Leicester City having failed to make an impact since his big money move to the King Power Stadium 12 months ago, however he netted twice in the Foxes’ 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United in midweek.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Torino hotshot Andrea Belotti are also targets for Monaco, though the former is looking to return to Atletico Madrid this summer and the latter has a £75m release clause in his contract should Torino sell to a foreign side.
