Atletico Madrid line up bid for Chelsea striker

Atletico Madrid are prepared to make Alvaro Morata’s loan stint from Chelsea permanent this summer, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Morata joined Atletico from Chelsea in January on an 18-month loan but the Premier League giants want to push through a permanent deal this summer.

Frank Lampard’s side have warned Atletico they are prepared to cut short Morata’s stay if they do not pay up in this transfer window.

Morata does not want to return to England after failing to adapt to life in London and has returned to pre-season training with Atletico.

The Spain international is hopeful Atletico can make a breakthrough in talks with Chelsea but the Premier League outfit are holding out for £50m.

Atletico have already spent more than £150m on new players this summer, though expect to recoup £107m when Antoine Griezmann moves to Barcelona.

Diego Simeone’s smashed their club transfer record to sign Benfica teenager Joao Felix in a deal worth £113m earlier this week and now face paying another high price to keep Morata at the club.

Morata scored six goals in 15 league appearances for Atletico last season compared to five goals in 16 league appearances for Chelsea.

In that time he returned a vastly superior WhoScored rating of 7.10 with Atletico compared to just 6.56 at Chelsea.
