Manchester City agree fee for Monaco star

Manchester City have agreed a £51.15m fee with Monaco for the signing of left-back Benjamin Mendy, according to French publication L’Equipe.

City have been heavily linked with a move for the France international for some time now, though Monaco did reject a £44.5m bid for the defender last week.

However, the deal has moved one step closer to completion after both teams came to an agreement on a price for Mendy.

The 23-year-old is keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium as City boss Pep Guardiola looks to improve his full-back options.

Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna have all left the club, while Aleksandar Kolarov is set to move to Roma.

City last week confirmed the capture of Kyle Walker from Tottenham, while Real Madrid outcast Danilo is set to join the England international at the Premier League side.

Mendy was an impressive performer for Monaco last season as his form returned a WhoScored rating of 7.25, with his influence at both ends of the pitch helping the club to their first Ligue 1 title since the 1999/2000 season.
