West Ham announce arrival of Borussia Dortmund winger
West Ham have announced the arrival of Borussia Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko on a four-year deal until 2022.
The Hammers have opted against declaring the fee paid for the Ukraine international but it is reportedly in the region of £17.5m.
Yarmolenko has previously been linked with a move to England and West Ham have finally prised the 28-year-old to the Premier League.
“Of course, I am very happy to sign for West Ham United,” he told the club’s official website. “West Ham is a big club with good fans and I am happy to come to play in the Premier League.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and I know that an interesting project is being built here at West Ham. The team wants to achieve high things and I am excited for this challenge"
Yarmolenko is Manuel Pellegrini’s five addition as West Ham manager this summer, following the arrivals of Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks and Jack Wilshere.
Pellegrini is also hopeful of landing former Manchester United target Felipe Anderson from Serie A side Lazio in a club-record deal worth £40m.
Yarmolenko only spent one season at Dortmund and struggled to make any impact at the club, limited to just 18 appearances in the Bundesliga.
The Ukraine winger's playing style is similar to Arjen Robben's. He plays on the right and will always look to cut inside and bend shots towards the far corner with his stronger left foot, though he is no where near as good as the Bayern Munich star.
Yarmolenko only scored three goals for Dortmund last season and will have to improve at West Ham in order to ease the burden on Marko Arnautovic.
