Suarez cuts short Arsenal loan move to return to Barcelona
Denis Suarez has announced he has cut short his loan stint with Arsenal and returned to parent club Barcelona for treatment on a groin injury.
Arsenal signed Suarez on loan from Barcelona in January but the Spaniard has endured a miserable spell at the Emirates.
Unai Emery pushed hard to get a deal over the line and used what little budget the club had to sign the 25-year-old until the end of the season.
However, Suarez has struggled to shake off a groin injury since February and has now returned to Barcelona.
“I want you all to know that I will not be able to play again this season,” he announced in a statement on his official Twitter account.
“Some issues with my groin have made things tough since the game against BATE Borisov in the Europa League in February and now they have forced me to stop training altogether.
“After various medical consultations, the conclusion has been reached that I cannot keep pushing it and I have started a period of treatment that cannot be done alongside competitive football.”
By returning to Spain, Suarez will miss Arsenal’s last four games of the season in all competitions, as well as the Europa League final if they overcome Valencia in the last four.
Suarez made just six appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and never started a single match.
In fact, the most time the Spaniard spent on the pitch at one time was on his debut, where he managed 24 minutes of action against former club Manchester City.
