Marcus Rashford pens blockbuster new Manchester United deal

Manchester United have announced Marcus Rashford has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal running until the summer of 2023.

Rashford’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of next season, though United had an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Rashford has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and Real Madrid in the last year and that only strengthened the 21-year-old's bargaining hand in contract talks.

United have reportedly agreed to pay Rashford eye-watering £200,000-a-week wages in order to secure his long-term future.

“Manchester United has been everything in my life since I arrived here at the age of seven,” he told the club’s official website.

“This club has shaped me, both as a player and as a person, so it is such a privilege every time I get the opportunity to wear the shirt.

“I want to thank Ole and his staff for everything they have done for me; they are the perfect group of coaches to learn from as I continue my development and look to push on to the next level,

“I will be giving everything I have to help get this club back to where it belongs and deliver the success our fans deserve.”

The Red Devils are at risk of star men like Paul Pogba, David de Gea and Romelu Lukaku walking out of the club over the next 12 months and losing Rashford was simply not an option.

Rashford has established himself as United’s first choice striker under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the England international will have to make rapid improvements to justify his new contract.

Rashford reached double figures for goals in a Premier League campaign for the first time in his career last term (10 goals), while also registering six assists.

However, he finished last season with just one goal in his last nine United appearances in all competitions.
