Brazilian ace to leave Paris Saint-Germain on free transfer

Thiago Silva will leave Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer when his current deal expires this summer, reports L'Equipe.

Silva, who turns 36 in September, has spent the last eight years at PSG after completing a reported €42m transfer from AC Milan in 2012.

Widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Europe during that time, Silva has been informed he is no longer required by PSG beyond this season.

The French Ligue 1 season has already finished after it was decided to curtail the campaign in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

With the Champions League set to conclude in August, Silva will sign a mini-extension with PSG to help them finish their European campaign before leaving on a free.

Boyhood club Fluminense are desperate to bring Silva back to Brazil but it remains to be seen whether they have the financial scope to pull off such a deal.

Even in the twilight of his career, Silva was superb for PSG prior to the league being curtailed and still has plenty to offer to any European club looking to add experience and class to their backline.

The veteran finished his final league campaign with PSG with the best pass accuracy in Ligue 1 (95.5%), failing to complete just 68 of 1495 attempted passes.
