Guus Hiddink believes Chelsea should reward John Terry with a new deal this season.
Terry, 35, has entered the final six months of his current deal and is yet to begin talks over an extension.
The former England captain hasn’t been in great form this season leading to speculation the club would not try and keep him on, but Hiddink believes he deserves to stay.
“John showed his important, not just with his equalising goal, but with his attitude and the actions he made defensively and offensively,” the Chelsea boss is quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph. “His commitment, in capitals, is huge for this team and this club.”
“If I am asked, I will give my honest opinion about his contract. If I say what I’m saying now, spontaneously out of my heart, then you can imagine what I think.”
Captain Terry scored a stoppage time equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday to maintain Hiddink’s unbeaten run as interim manager (six matches).
In fact, since the start of the 09/10 campaign, no defender has scored more goals in the Premier League than Terry (23).
