Bayern Munich are set to appoint Jupp Heynckes as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement for the Bundesliga champions, reports German publication Sport Bild.
Bayern last month relieved Ancelotti of his duties at the Allianz Arena helm on the back of a disappointing 3-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League.
Thomas Tuchel had been a rumoured replacement for the Italian, while other outlets suggested that Willy Sagnol would take caretaker charge until the end of the season.
However, the German giants are set to bring Heynckes back to Munich until the end of the campaign, with the 72-year-old out of work since leaving the club in 2013.
The experienced manager departed having won the treble in the 2012/13 season, but made way for Pep Guardiola to take over the reins.
Heynckes is still highly thought of at the club, but he faces an uphill task in Bayern’s bid to retain their title.
Bayern have won only two of their last five league games, a disappointing run by their lofty standards, and are now five points behind rivals and league leaders Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga.
