Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is determined to sign a fourth player this summer and has rekindled his interest in Chelsea winger Willian, reports The Sun.
Mourinho started the summer with four key areas in mind that needed strengthening and United CEO Ed Woodward has only managed to address three of those.
United missed out on Inter winger Ivan Perisic and now Mourinho is ready to launch a stunning last-ditched attempt to reunite with Willian at Old Trafford.
The Brazil international was a key member of Chelsea’s 2014/15 title-winning squad under Mourinho and the United boss failed to prise him away from Stamford Bridge 12 months ago.
However, there have been reports in the past suggesting Antonio Conte does not completely trust Willian, although any deal seems unlikely with only hours remaining in the transfer window.
United have already signed Nemanja Matic from the reigning Premier League champions and landing Willian would only raise further questions about Chelsea’s squad management this summer.
Willian has started three of Chelsea’s four Premier League games this season, although he faces a fight for first-team opportunities when Eden Hazard is back to full fitness.
Nevertheless, only Marcos Alonso (7.95) has garnered a higher WhoScored rating in the league than Willian (7.44) of all Chelsea players thus far.
