Granada have announced they have made former Arsenal manager Tony Adams their new manager until the end of the season in a hugely left-field appointment.
The La Liga strugglers sacked Lucas Alcaraz as manager on Monday with the club second from bottom in the table and seven points adrift of safety.
Adams was only appointed Granada’s sporting director by Chinese owners Jian Lizhang last week but the 50-year-old has now been promoted as manager and has been given the huge task of securing their La Liga status for next season.
“After assessing the situation the team is in, Granada CF has decide to part company with Lucas Alcaraz and his coaching staff,” read a club statement.
“In his place, the club has total confidence in Tony Adams, vice-president of DDMC, as head coach of Granada CF until the end of the season.”
Adams last managerial position was with Azerbaijani side Qabala in 2011 and his only experience of management in top-flight football was back with Portsmouth in 2009. Over the course of his three stints as manager, he has only managed to win 10 of 56 league games (17.9% win ratio).
