Manchester United are plotting a sensational £145m double raid for Atletico Madrid pair Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann, reports the Times.
Jose Mourinho is looking to assemble a United squad capable of becoming the best in Europe once more and has earmarked the pair as essential buys in that dream becoming reality.
The duo only recently penned new deals for the La Liga side, with both running until 2021, while the combined release clause will total £145m.
United, though, are confident of negotiating that fee down with the pair both high the Mourinho’s wish list.
French forward Griezmann has impressed following his arrival from Real Sociedad, though he hasn’t scored a league goal since the beginning of October.
Saul, meanwhile, has emerged as a key man under Diego Simeone, with his versatility a real bonus to the Atletico boss.
United need to strengthen in the midfield and final third if they are to re-establish themselves as the best in Europe, though it remans to be seen whether they can push the deal over the line this month.
