Chelsea are on the verge of appointing Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri and will aim to make Juventus defender Daniele Rugani one of his first signings, claims The Daily Mirror.
The Premier League giants have made a breakthrough in talks with Napoli and are also expected to get Jorginho included in a £50m double-deal.
Chelsea have no time to waste in the transfer market with the new season just over a month away and hope to sign Rugani from Juventus as well.
The Italy international has been tipped for a bright future for many years now but has struggled to break into the Juventus first-team on a regular basis in the last three seasons.
With David Luiz expected to join Napoli this summer, Chelsea are willing to lavish £35m to prise Rugani away from Juventus.
The 23-year-old started as many league games last season than his previous two campaigns combined (22), but still hasn’t won the complete trust of the Old Lady.
Despite that, Rugani has only finished on the losing side in two of the 44 Serie A games he has started in the last three campaigns.
In that time, Juventus conceded fewer goals on average per game (0.57) with Rugani in the starting XI compared to when he hasn’t featured from the off (0.66).
