Unhappy Liverpool goalkeeper considers future at the club
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has revealed he is not happy with Jurgen Klopp’s rotation policy and is considering his Anfield future.
The 30-year-old was dropped in favour of Loris Karius for Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Manchester City before confirming the German as his No.1 goalkeeper for the remainder of the season.
Despite starting 19 Premier League matches this season, Mignolet has often dropped to the bench for cup and European games and the Belgium international is not happy with his current situation at Anfield.
“After the game against Burnley I had a conversation with the coach, among other things about his ongoing rotation,” Mignolet told Belgian outlet Sporza, via The Daily Telegraph.
“I did not find that a healthy situation for a goalkeeper. My place on the bench against City confirmed his words. I am not satisfied with that [being dropped] but you have to respect a decision of the trainer.
“After everything that has happened this season, I know where I stand and the situation has become clearer. I have been in such situations before and have always come out stronger.
“But of course I also have to think about my own future, the only thing I can do is focus on the training and do my best. I’m 30 years old and the World Cup is coming in. This situation cannot last too long, that’s clear. I cannot say more about it.”
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for a new goalkeeper this month but it appears Klopp will not make any changes between the sticks until the summer at the earliest.
In the last four Premier League campaigns, only Lukasz Fabianski (10) and Hugo Lloris (9) have committed more errors that have directly led to an opposition goal.
