Leicester skipper in race to be fit for Atletico Madrid clash
Leicester might be without Wes Morgan for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash with Atletico Madrid next week with the centre-back struggling to shake off a back injury, reports The Daily Mail.
Morgan, 33, has missed Leicester’s last three matches with a back injury and is expected to be sidelined for their trip to Everton on Sunday with a view to getting their captain fit in time for arguably the biggest match in the club’s history next week.
The Foxes has enjoyed a stunning resurgence since sacking Claudio Ranieri at the end of February and are bidding to make history when they face Atletico in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
However, Craig Shakespeare will not risk playing Morgan unless his captain is 100 per cent fit and they are assessing a nerve problem in his back every 24 hours to ensure they can make the best decision possible on his fitness.
The fact that Morgan has not trained with his teammates since suffering the injury against Sevilla midway through March would suggest he faces a tall order proving his fitness in time before they face Atletico.
In the last two Premier League campaigns only two players have blocked more shots than Morgan (66).
