Sheffield United make offer to Manchester United defender

Sheffield United have made an offer to Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia for next season, claims The Daily Mail.

Valencia’s contract expires at the end of the month and United have confirmed they will not offer the 33-year-old a new deal.

The veteran defender has spent the last decade at United and now has several offers on the table to remain in the Premier League.

Valencia barely featured for United last season after dropping completely out of favour under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He will hope to make up for lost time at this summer’s Copa America with Ecuador before evaluating his next move.

There are also Major League Soccer clubs interested in signing Valencia but newly promoted Sheffield United are hoping to add his experience to their ranks.

It comes just a day after it emerged the Blades had made an audacious move to sign Franck Ribery on a Bosman transfer

The Bayern Munich winger will also be a free agent this summer but is unlikely to move to Bramall Lane.

United have a better win ratio in the Premier League over the last two seasons when Valencia has started (69.4%) compared to when he hasn’t featured from the off (47.5%).
