Newcastle sign Inter winger on loan

Newcastle have confirmed the arrival of Inter winger Valentino Lazaro on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy.

Lazaro only joined Inter from Hertha Berlin in the summer but failed to make a positive impression on Antonio Conte during the first half of the season.

Inter signed Ashley Young and Victor Moses from Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively, this month to force Lazaro to find regular playing time elsewhere.

Newcastle have been forced to dip into the market for a new player capable of playing left-back and left wing-back following Jetro Willems' season-ending injury this month.

A move for Tottenham's Danny Rose had been mooted but Steve Bruce's side have instead secured Lazaro's signature with an option to sign him permanently for £20m in the summer.

Lazaro made just six league appearances for Inter this season, with only half of those coming as starts.

However, only Matteo Politano (2.9), also on his way out of Inter this month, averages more key passes per 90 than Lazaro (2.5) for the club in Serie A this term.
