Bale's agent rubbishes Tottenham return rumours

The agent of Gareth Bale has categorically ruled out a return to Tottenham on deadline day.

Reports emerged on Friday morning claiming Tottenham had made a breakthrough in talks to re-sign Bale from Real Madrid.

The Wales international does not feature in Zinedine Zidane's long-term plans at Madrid and Tottenham hoped to take advantage of the situation.

Trying to find a solution for Bale's £500-000-a-week wages remained the biggest obstacle for Tottenham to overcome.

However, Tottenham have run out of time to try and broker Bale's return and his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has rubbished speculation linking his client with a move away.

"One word: c**p," Barnett told The Daily Mail when asked to comment on reports linking Bale back to Tottenham.

Bale has spent the last six-and-a-half years at Madrid after completing a £86m move from Tottenham in the summer of 2013.

The 30-year-old has won everything on offer for Madrid but his relationship with the club and supporters have soured massively in the last 12 months.

Bale has been limited to just nine league starts this season and has scored just two goals. Injury problems have prevented the Welshman from consistent playing time ever since his arrival.

In fact, Bale, who has frequently been linked with a move to Manchester United, has only started 142 of a possible 259 league matches for Madrid.
