Harry Kane will undergo an ankle scan on Monday to discover the extent of the ankle injury he suffered against Bournemouth on Sunday amid fears he may not be fit in time for the 2018 World Cup.
The England international was forced off midway through the first half of Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth after hurting his ankle in a collision with Cherries’ goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Kane was deciding whether or not he could continue on the sideline with Tottenham’s medical staff before turning and walking straight down the tunnel after 34 minutes played in the first half.
The 24-year-old left Dean Court on crutches and in a protective boot and Mauricio Pochettino is concerned the Tottenham star has suffered ankle ligament damage.
“He [Kane] suffered an injury that is to the same ankle he suffered before,” The Guardian quote Pochettino as saying after the match. “We hope it is not a massive issue. We need to wait until [the scan].
“Harry has a great character and is positive. We are, of course, disappointed with his problem but, if you are positive, you start the recovery now.”
England manager Gareth Southgate will name his squad on Thursday for upcoming friendlies against Holland and Italy but Kane is almost certainly set to miss both matches at the end of the month.
If scan results return confirming Tottenham’s worst fears then Kane could also be a huge doubt for the World Cup at the end of the season and that would all but end England’s hopes of progressing far in the competition.
Kane has scored 35 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions this season, more than any other Premier League player.
