Manchester United to trigger 12-month extension in Rashford’s contract

Manchester United plan to trigger a 12-month extension in Marcus Rashford’s contract to end talk of a summer exit, claims The Sun.

Rashford has one year left to run on his current contract and United are locked in talks about a new long-term deal.

The England international is reportedly holding out for stunning £350,000-a-week wages, which has held up negotiations over the last year.

Rashford has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the last six months and United are determined to fend off interest from their European rivals.

The 21-year-old has leapfrogged Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order for places under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now Lukaku is seeking an Old Trafford exit.

Despite being United’s first choice striker, the Red Devils still haven’t made a decisive breakthrough in contract talks.

In order to quash any speculation of a summer move away, United are set to prolong Rashford’s contract by a further 12 months to the summer of 2021.

Rashford reached 10 Premier League goals in a single-campaign for the first time last term but he will need to make huge improvements next season.

With Lukaku looking to secure a summer move to Inter, there will be even more pressure on Rashford’s shoulders to lead the line for United.
