Chelsea re-sign Lukaku in club-record deal

Chelsea have confirmed the return of Romelu Lukaku from Inter in a club-record deal worth £97.5m.

Lukaku, who left Chelsea permanently in 2014, has put pen to paper on a blockbuster five-year deal running until the summer of 2026.

The European Champions have shattered their club-transfer record to land Lukaku, eclipsing the £72m they paid for Spanish goalkeeper Kepa in 2018.

Chelsea switched their attention to Lukaku after accepting defeat in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.

Inter didn't want to sell Lukaku this summer but have been forced to cash in on the Belgium international due to their financial woes.

Manchester City broke the British transfer record to land Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in a £100m swoop last week but Chelsea's deal has come in under that fee.

Lukaku played a key role in Inter's first league title triumph in over a decade last season with a return of 24 goals and 11 assists.

In fact, the 28-year-old was one of only two players to register double figures for both goals and assists in Serie A last term.
