Isco has confirmed he is in talks with Real Madrid about signing a new deal with the club.
The Spain international was heavily linked with a move away during the summer with a potential return to Malaga on the cards but nothing materialised before the transfer window closed.
Even then, Isco was still thought of having no future at the club after failing to establish himself in the starting XI under Zinedine Zidane, and with less than two years remaining on his existing deal, his days looked numbered at the reigning European champions.
However, in a sensational turn of events, Isco has now confirmed talks are underway to extend his stay beyond the end of next season.
“I still have this year and next on my contract, both the club and myself are looking forward [to a renewal] and we hope to sort it out,” Isco told Marca after their 2-1 win over Sporting in the Champions League in midweek, via Football Espana. “I’m getting continuity now and am happy to help the team.”
In the last three La Liga seasons only James Rodriguez (16) has completed more through balls than Isco (15) for Madrid.
