Arsenal agree club-record fee for Aubameyang

Arsenal are on the brink of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after agreeing a club-record €63m (£55m) fee with Borussia Dortmund, claim Kicker, via the London Evening Standard.

Arsene Wenger’s side shattered their club transfer record to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in the summer in a deal worth £46.5m and will now eclipse that for Aubameyang’s signature.

The Gunners have been pursuing Aubameyang for most of the January transfer window but a deal appeared in doubt after the Gabon international returned to first-team action with Dortmund in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg.

However, Arsenal have now made a decisive breakthrough in talks with their German counterparts with just a few days before Wednesday’s deadline, having previously failed with a £50m bid last week.

The 28-year-old would be the second high profile arrival at the Emirates this month after Arsenal received Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a straight swap deal with Manchester United for Alexis Sanchez.

It was thought that Olivier Giroud would be used as a makeweight in a deal to prise Aubameyang away from Dortmund, but it is now understood that the France international has not been included in the transfer and Peter Stoger's side will instead turn to former Cologne striker Anthony Modeste.

In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, Aubameyang has converted at least eight more clear-cut goalscoring chances than any other player (62).
