Burnley sound out Southampton goalkeeper

 

Burnley want to sign Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a season-long loan deal, reports The Daily Mail.

 

The Clarets are enduring an injury crisis between the sticks now first choice shot-stopper Nick Pope will be sidelined for up to three months with a dislocated shoulder.

 

Tom Heaton is struggling with a calf injury and Sean Dyche opted against risking Anders Lindegaard in a pre-season friendly against Montpellier on Sunday due to a thigh problem.

 

Burnley are yet to make a signing this summer but want to hand Forster with a way out of Southampton on an initial loan deal.

 

Forster has fallen completely out of favour at Southampton in the last 12 months, costing him a place at the 2018 World Cup with England.

The 30-year-old last made a competitive appearance on Boxing Day and will need to leave Saint Mary’s to have any chance of regular football next term.

 

Southampton splashed out £13.5m to sign Angus Gunn from Manchester City earlier this summer, only reinforcing the fact Forster is surplus to requirements.

 

Forster made 20 appearances in the Premier League last season but only kept four clean sheets in that time.
