Ighalo set to seal £15m permanent Manchester United deal

Manchester United are prepared to sign on-loan striker Odion Ighalo for £15M this summer, claims The Daily Mail.

Ighalo has been a revelation for United since joining on a shock loan deal from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua at the end of January.

United were widely criticised for signing the former Watford striker after starting January with Erling Haaland as their No.1 transfer target.

However, Ighalo has been a revelation for United with four goals in his first three starts for the club and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to make the move permanent.

Ighalo's is due to return to China at the end of May when his loan deal expires but there is a high chance the Premier League season will run well beyond that point.

Football is at complete standstill as the world comes to terms with the rapid outbreak of COVID-19 and all leagues and competitions have been suspended.

No one really knows when, or if, the current season will be completed but it will certainly not conclude on time.

With clubs set to lose a number of players at the end of their contract before the season has finished, FIFPro are currently working on a solution but United are seriously considering snapping up Ighalo on a full-time basis.

Ighalo's arrival has also brought the best out of Anthony Martial as a No.9 and there are concerns a big name arrival in his position will derail the Frenchman's progress.

Shanghai Shenhua reportedly paid in the region of £4M to sign Ighalo just over 12 months ago and now stand to make a huge profit.

Ighalo is a boyhood United fan and is even willing to take a dramatic paycut on his current £300,000-a-week wages to secure a long-term deal at Old Trafford.
