Fenerbahce emerge as shock frontrunners for Wilshere signature

Fenerbahce are in advanced talks to sign Jack Wilshere on a free transfer, reports ESPN.

Wilshere is currently a free agent after his Arsenal deal expired at the start of the month and he has received plenty of interest from England and abroad.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Italy in the past but now Fenerbahce have emerged as the most likely destination.

Fenerbahce sporting director Damien Comolli, who was previously at Liverpool, is spearheading transfer talks with Wilshere’s representatives.

The Turkish giants are reportedly prepared to offer Wilshere a four-year deal worth €4m each season, loaded with add-ons and a big sign-on fee.

Wilshere featured prominently for Arsenal last season but failed to force his way back into the England squad in time for the 2018 World Cup.

Arsenal were confident Wilshere would renew his deal prior to Unai Amery’s appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor but confirmed his departure after 17 years at the club towards the end of last month.

The Gunners are currently locked in talks with Sampdoria to sign Lucas Torreira, while Emery wants to build Arsenal’s midfield around Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal had a better win ratio in the Premier League last season when Wilshere did not start (53.8%) compared to when he did feature from the off (41.7%).
