Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed he would one day like to coach the Netherlands job, but says he will see out the remaining 12 months of his current deal at Saint Mary’s
Koeman, who won 78 caps with the Oranje, was reportedly overlooked by the KNVB before they appointed Guus Hiddink last year and he admits he still has aspirations to manage the Oranje.
The Netherlands are on the brink of humiliation as their hopes of making the extended Euro 2016 hangs in the balance. With two games remaining they must hope Turkey drop points for any chance of even making the play-offs.
“It’s not the best moment for the Dutch national team,” Koeman is quoted as saying in Football Oranje.
“We know that and of course there are always those kinds of rumours.
“Everybody knows it is part of my ambition [to manage Netherlands], but in the future. Not for now. Not for the next year. Maybe in the future but not at this time.
Since taking over as Southampton manager last year, Koeman has managed to win more than 45% of his Premier League games, which is more than impressive when they were considered nailed on by most to go down when he took over.
