Liverpool Team News: January arrival to miss welcome of Manchester City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to be without big money January arrival Virgil van Dijk when the Reds welcome Manchester City to Anfield today, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Van Dijk made an immediate impact following his £75m signing at the beginning of January, netting the winner in Liverpool’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Everton.

The Dutchman was in line to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool, but is carrying a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play any part in today’s meeting with Manchester City.

Klopp must now decide who to start alongside Joel Matip at the heart of the defence, with Dejan Lovren expected to get the nod ahead of Ragnar Klavan.

Liverpool are looking to avenge the 5-0 defeat suffered at City’s hands earlier in the season in today’s match.

City haven’t won at Anfield in the Premier League since a 2-1 win back in 2003 as they look to extend their 15-point gap at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola’s side are on a 22-match unbeaten league run this season, while Liverpool’s 13-match unbeaten streak is the second current longest behind City.
