Manchester United youngster earns first international call-up

Manchester United have confirmed Scott McTominay has been called up to the senior Scotland squad for the first time in his career.

McTominay has endured a whirlwind 2018 after establishing himself as a key player for Jose Mourinho.

England and Scotland were both battling for McTominay’s services before the 21-year-old elected to pledge his international allegiance to the latter.

“Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been called up to the senior Scotland squad for the first time,” a statement read on United’s official website.

Scotland, who failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, face Costa Rica and Hungary in friendlies at the end of March and McTominay is expected to make his debut.

McTominay has started seven of United’s last nine matches in all competitions and played important roles in victories over Chelsea and Liverpool in the last fortnight.

In fact, United have won all five of the Premier League matches McTominay has started this season.
