Cologne have announced they have sold Anthony Modeste to Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian bringing close to a drawn out affair.
Modeste has been heavily linked with a lucrative move to China since the end of last season but a deal appeared to have collapsed when the Bundesliga side announced last month they’d terminated discussions with Quanjian.
Fabio Canavarro’s side have been determined to sign a big name European striker since the start of last season and were regularly linked with a move for Chelsea striker Diego Costa earlier this year.
However, the Chinese Super League outfit have finally achieved their goal and have paid a reported £31.5m fee to Cologne, which is a record sale by the German side.
Despite failing to make any impression in the Premier League with Blackburn, Modeste has established himself as one of the best goalscorers in the Bundesliga in the last two seasons. In fact, only Robert Lewandowski (60) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (56) have scored more Bundesliga goals than the Frenchman (40) in that time.
Furthermore, only RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg (9) won more WhoScored Man of the Match awards than Modeste (7) in the Bundesliga last term.
