Manchester United are sweating on scan results of defender Phil Jones amid fears he has broken toe and will miss the whole of April through injury, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The 24-year-old was forced to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s England squad after suffering the toe injury in training following a tackle with United teammate Chris Smalling, who also broke his toe earlier in the season.
Jones had only just put his recent injury woes behind him to play a key part in United’s resurgence under Mourinho but is now expected to spend a crucial month of action for the Red Devils on the sidelines.
Mourinho is currently waiting on scan results to find out the true extent of the injury and if it is confirmed that Jones has broke his toe then the England international will miss nine matches in April.
It means Jones will miss both legs of United’s Europa League quarter final clash with Anderlecht, as well as league matches against West Brom, Everton, Sunderland, Chelsea, Burnley, Manchester City and Swansea.
United are undefeated with Jones in the starting XI, although they have only won seven of those 14 matches.
