Drinkwater hit with three-game ban

Danny Drinkwater will miss Leicester’s next three league matches after accepting an FA charge for violent conduct following an altercation in their 2-1 defeat to Watford last weekend.

The Football Association announced on Wednesday they had taken retrospective action on the Leicester midfielder after his elbow on Watford’s Valon Behrami went unnoticed by Neil Swarbrick in the 67th minute of the Foxes’ fifth away league defeat of the season.

Drinkwater, 26, was given until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge and the FA have confirmed the former Manchester United midfielder has accepted the charge and will now serve his ban with immediate effect.

It means Leicester will be without Drinkwater for crucial league games against Middlesbrough and Sunderland, as well as the reception of Manchester City on December 10.

In the last two seasons Drinkwater has won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in the Premier League (257).
