Liverpool have lodged a £24.5m bid for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira, according to The Times.
Teixeira, 26, has openly admitted to being in talks with Chelsea over a proposed move in recent months, with Shakhtar willing to sell.
However, the reigning Premier League champions could be set to miss out on the Brazilian striker unless they firm up their interest following a fresh move from rivals Liverpool.
The Reds’ aren’t expected to make a breakthrough with their initial bid, as Shakhtar reportedly looking to fetch nearly £40m for the goalscoring sensation.
Goals have proven a problem for Liverpool this season and Klopp is understandably keen to resolve that problem, either this month or in the summer.
Teixeira has scored a stunning 22 goals in just 15 league matches this season, which is at least 16 more goals than any other teammate and 12 more than anyone else in the Ukrainian Premier League.
