Manchester United not after Newcastle midfielder

Manchester United are not interested in Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff contrary to reports saying otherwise, claims the Manchester Evening News.

Sky Sports revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had earmarked Longstaff as a potential transfer target this summer after an impressive breakthrough campaign.

Solskjaer wants United to move away from signing big names and focus on recruiting players with the right personality to fit the club.

United are closing in on a surprise deal to sign Swansea youngster Daniel James but Longstaff is not on the club’s radar.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive spell in Newcastle’s first-team before a serious knee injury ended his season at the start of March.

Longstaff successfully established himself as a first-choice midfielder for Rafa Benitez and started eight league matches at the start of the year.

Newcastle had a better win ratio in the Premier League this season when Longstaff started (50%) compared to games he did not (28.7%).
