Bayern Munich star refuses to rule out Barcelona switch

Thiago Alcantara insists he is very happy at Bayern Munich but has refused to rule out returning to Barcelona in the future.

The Spain international left Barcelona to join Bayern in 2013 and many believe the La Liga giants were wrong to let the 26-year-old leave.

Thiago has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe since making the move to Germany, but has not ruled out returning to the Camp Nou one day.

“Barcelona will always be my home, I have great affection not only for the club but for the city too,” Thiago told Catalunya Radio, via Football Espana.

“I am really happy at Bayern so I cannot say if I will definitely return but football changes a lot in a short space of time and anything can happen.

“Last season I renewed my contract with Bayern but there is a possibility that the club and me differ in the directions we wish to take.

“As a footballer, you can only look at the current season as it is so long and afterwards you reflect upon it and where you want to go from there but right now, I am happy at Bayern.”

Barcelona’s decision to sell Thiago has proved a costly one as they have spent more than £80m on new central midfielders since then and are still no closer to finding a natural heir to Andres Iniesta.

Since the start of last season, Thiago has completed at least 16 more interceptions than any other Bundesliga player (141).
