Liverpool have announced they have signed Mohamed Salah from Serie A giants in a club-record deal worth a reported £36.9m.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have eclipsed the £35m they paid Newcastle for Andy Carroll in January 2011 and could eventually end up shelling out £43.9m on Salah if performance-related add-ons are met.
Liverpool have been locked in transfer negotiations with their Italian counterparts for the past month after having an initial £28m bid for the former Chelsea winger rejected but have finally landed one of Klopp’s top transfer targets on a long-term contract.
“I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy. I will give 100 per cent and give everything for the club,” Salah, who has been handed the No.11 shirt, told the Liverpool’s official website. “I really want to win something for this club.
“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 per cent to win something.
“Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”
Salah turned down Liverpool to join Chelsea three years ago and the Egypt international endured a torrid time at Stamford Bridge before eventually moving to Italy where has since flourished.
Last season Salah was one of eight players that registered double figures for goals (15) and assists (11) in Europe’s top five leagues.
