Free agent Sneijder subject of interest from Nice

Ligue 1 outfit Nice are weighing up a move for Wesley Sneijder after the Dutchman bid farewell to Galatasaray this summer, L’Equipe reports.

Lucien Favre is looking to bolster his ranks ahead of the season as the Eaglets hope to book a place in the Champions League, and the veteran playmaker is reportedly in the club’s sights.

Sneijder has spent the last four years in the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray but decided against renewing his deal and is now a free agent.

The 33-year-old proved last season that he is still more than capable of returning pulling the strings for his side, registering a league high of 15 assists despite what was a disappointing season for his former charges.

The player’s agent has denied reports of any contact with Nice as things stand but has confirmed that his client is open to offers, stating: “We absolutely did not discuss Wesley with the leaders of Nice. Perhaps there will be interest later. For now, there is absolutely nothing. We will see. He has the advantage of being without a contract."

Nice ended the previous Ligue 1 campaign in third but risk losing key players, with Ricardo Pereira already having returned to parent club Porto, Dalbert close to signing for Inter and interest in midfielder Jean Michael Seri believed to be widespread.
