Valencia injury scare worries Hammers

West Ham’s Enner Valencia will have a scan on his knee on Friday after being stretchered off in the club’s Europa League clash with Astra Giurgiu.

Valencia, 25, was replaced shortly after putting his team ahead in their third qualifying round first leg tie on Thursday evening after falling awkwardly in a challenge and manager Slaven Bilic confirmed the injury looks serious.

“I am worried,” Bilic is quoted as saying by BBC Sport in the wake of West Ham’s surprise 2-2 draw.

“It looks serious but we won’t know for sure until he has a scan. This is the reason I am unhappy.

“I am not happy with the result of course but this is not as important as the injury.”

Valencia was a £12m summer signing last year and made an impressive start to life in the Premier League before injuries curtailed the back end of the season.

Nevertheless, only two West Ham teammates managed to have a direct hand in more goals than Valencia (7) in the Premier League last season.
